NSW - PARKES SHIRE - HOME OF THE DISH

The Parkes region is well known for its Radio Telescope that shot to fame in the year 2000 upon the release of the Australian film 'THE DISH'!


Set amid level paddocks and trees in a broad, shallow valley 'The Dish' can be seen for miles. When the dish is tilted, it is being used for Astronomy, work continues probing for the emissions from deepest space: examining hints and pieces of information which will add to our knowledge. Imagine how much more there is yet to learn!

The Parkes Shire is made up of the township of Parkes, as well as smaller villages such as BOGAN GATE, PEAK HILL, TRUNDLE AND TULLAMORE.

PARKES - from a Gold Rush Town of the last century, Parkes has progressed to become a thriving commercial centre servicing a rich agricultural district.

BOGAN GATE - is a progressive little village and a great place to stop for Devonshire Teas

PEAK HILL -provides an indelible linked with history from the discovery of gold in 1889. A reminder of the gold rush remains with the mine now subject to extensive activity more than a century after the initial gold discoveries.

TRUNDLE - Well known for its unique Australian Bush experience and fair dinkum Aussie hospitality. The Bush Cook day is not to be missed with music, camp food cooking and damper tasting along with all the old swag stories! Its Hotel boasts the longest wooden verandah in Australia!! AND the widest street!!
