NSW - KHANCOBAN - FISHERMAN'S, NATURE LOVER'S & ADVENTURER'S PARADISE!

The picturesque lakeside village of Khancoban is nestled in a lush valley amongst the foothills of the magnificent Snowy Mountains

Centrally situated as the western portal to Kosciuszko National Park, Khancoban provides an ideal base from which to explore the many attractions of Kosciuszko National Park, the Snowy Hydro Scheme and the Upper Murray River. Many travel long distances to enjoy the thrill of Khancoban's adventure activities.

Thunder down the Upper Murray in a whitewater raft. Pack up the family and a picnic, for a leisurely canoe trip down the Swampy Plains River. Khancoban offers some of the best rock climbing, abseiling and hang-gliding sites in Australia.

Khancoban is also noted for fantastic trout fishing and boating.

Imagine wrestling a five-kilogram monster from the depths of the pondage, or take a float trip along the pristine waters of the Lower Swampy to find the perfect spot from which to entice the big one with a fly.

Winter provides a whole new realm of excitement with easy access to Thredbo and Perisher Blue (via skitube), along the Alpine way (chains must be carried in 2wd vehicles - one way snow chain hire is available between Khancoban & Jindabyne).

Selwyn Snowfields are about ninety minutes, via the Elliott Way, providing an inexpensive family oriented snow experience. Ski, snowboards, toboggan, snow chains, outdoor clothing & snow boot hire are available from the Lakeside Caravan Resort. Several establishments provide accommodation in winter

Khancoban, being on the doorstep of Kosciuszko National Park has abundant native flora & fauna, within easy reach. With plenty of kangaroos, emus, wombats, platypus and an incredible array of native bird-life, from the magnificent wedge-tailed eagle, kookaburra, cockatoo, pelican, colourful parrots, majestic black swans and the elusive lyrebird and bower bird are often seen. Platypus also thrive in The Swampy Plains & Upper Murray Rivers.

A scenic drive along the Alpine Way toward Thredbo will take you to Tom Groggin Station, home to Jack Riley. Jack's life was the basis for Banjo Paterson's epic poem 'The Man from Snow River'. From Tom Groggin to Thredbo, you will often see the famed wild 'brumby' horses. Horse riding has always been an important part of Khancoban's history.

Unfortunately insurance costs have forced the closure of our two riding establishments (We hope the Govt will sort it out soon!)
