QLD - MAGNETIC ISLAND - ISLAND LIFE IN THE TROPICS

Magnetic Island, is one of those marvellous places that is perfect for everyone.

Much of the island is a mountainous national park and home to Australia's largest koala population.

Walking tracks meander the national parks and rocky headlands of the island, providing sweeping views of Cleveland Bay and the city of Townsville.

Magnetic Island has the unique distinction of being the sunniest island on the northern coast with over 300 days of sunshine each year - giving more time to experience its signature blend of activities and relaxation.

Magnetic Island has an abundance of outdoor activities. Take a jet ski tour around the island, go sailing or hire a canoe and paddle to a deserted beach. Snorkel over coral reefs, go water skiing or parasailing. Golf enthusiasts can play a round at the Country Club. Other activities include horseriding on the beach, tennis or lawn bowls.

From July to September, the protected waters become the winter playground to a pod of humpback whales.

Discover the island by taking a bus or harley davidson, hire a mini moke, scooter or bicycle - or take your own car on the vehicle ferry and explore at your own leisure and pace. Take a fun spin around the island on the amazing stretch jeep.

There are spectacular views from The Forts, remainders of World War II, when this part of Australia was the frontline defence against invasion. The Forts offer panoramic views of Magnetic Island and the Coral Sea.

Magnetic Island is the only island on the north coast to combine a national park with a permanent residency of some 2000 people. You'll find all the conveniences on Magnetic Island such as shops, supermarkets, buses, taxis, boutiques, restaurants, cafes and nightclubs.
