NSW - MERRIWA - A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

You're always welcome in Merriwa and district, Hub of the Golden Highway.

Call in and stay for an hour, a week, or the rest of your life. Choose from motel, hotel or tourist park accommodation and eateries ranging from takeaways to restaurants.

Long ago the Koori people called this bountiful district 'Merriwa' (plentiful with grass seeds and flour).

Today Merriwa's clean, fresh air, plentiful water and fertile soil produce some of the tastiest, best quality food in Australia. Wheat, barley, canola and sorghum, beef and lamb (some Organic), pork, herbs and spices, olives, luscious stone fruit and strawberries, grapes and wines... the list goes on.

Merriwa and district's lifeblood is the family farm. Shearing time and the December wheat harvest are their busiest times of the year. Wool from the Merriwa flocks is highly prized as are local fat lambs, stud cattle and sheep.

Local industries taking advantage of Merriwa's ideal transport position on the Golden Highway include a herb farm and processing plant, a nursery and lavender farm, a stockfeed factory, orchardist and a wool quilt manufacturer.
