NSW - TENTERFIELD - 'THE BIRTHPLACE OF OUR NATION'
Tenterfield is one of the most romantic and colourful of Australia's frontier towns, and is known as “The Birthplace of Our Nation” Some of the well-known characters who helped to shape the town were: Captain Thunderbolt, the bushranger.
A B “Banjo” Patterson, married local girl Alice Walker. Peter Allen, the International entertainer, was born here.

Teneterfield is surrounded by beautiful National Parks containing ancient rainforests and vast stands of stately eucalypts, that provide a home for Lyre birds, kangaroos, wallabies and platypus all living and enjoying their natural environment. Parks include: Bald Rock, Boonoo Boonoo, Girraween, Sundown, Tooloom, Basket Swamp all within easy or comfortable driving distance of Tenterfield. The town itself has several parks with creeks, weeping willows, and other magnificent trees.
Rich volcanic soil and high altitudes bring climatic conditions that are more than favourable to the production of excellent wines. Varietal grapes including Chardonnay, Merlot & Shiraz.
Most wineries have cellar door sales, sampling the many classic wines of the New England region has become a sort after pleasure many travel to Tenterfield to experience.
Tenterfield is the place to be during the fruit picking months as the opportunity to pick your own fruit is very popular. The best time for stone fruit is November through to March. Blossom time is September.
Tenterfield has a brilliant line up of well known artists and the well stocked Arts & Galleries that draws interest both nationally and internationally.
