NSW - YOUNG - DISCOVER THE SECRETS AND TREASURES - HISTORIC GOLD TOWN & THE CHERRY CAPITAL OF AUSTRALIA

YOUNG 'The Cherry Capital of Australia' is situated in the South West slopes of NSW and is well known for a 6 month time frame of 'Picking Your Own Cherries' and various stone fruits.

Highlights of the year are the Cherry Blossoms in late September to early October and the Cherry Harvest from November to January. The National Cherry Festival is held late November to early December over two weekends and is a celebration of the fruit harvest. This year the dates are 29th November - 7th December 2002.

Even though this is the most popular time of year - Young is beautiful throughout every season - with the falling leaves and rustic autumn colours or the warm cosy open fires at the quaint B&B's that will make your winter warmer. Spring is spectacular with the blossoms and summer means juicy fresh cherries and stone fruit.

Young has 5 cellar door outlets who offer a variety of wines from the well known 'Hilltops' cool climate region.

Steeped in history from goldrush days try your hand at gold panning or picking your own cherries in season. Picnic at Chinaman's Dam, or the Lambing Flat Folk Museum. Take a look at the historic farm collection, enjoy farm tours and learn about the mustard seed oil factory. Enjoy historic buildings, open gardens and gourmet food. Young boasts an excellent selection of accommodation from farm stays and B&B's, 3 star to 4.5 star motels, pub stays and a lovely Caravan Park.

Young Visitor Information Centre is open 7 days. The friendly staff will show you displays of local produce, souvenirs and historic photographic collections and will direct you to the many tourist attractions available.

Young is a great town to base your holiday if you are thinking of visiting the National Capital (Canberra) which is only 1hr & 40mins drive from Young. With lots to offer and many things to see and do.
