NSW - CARGO - A Real Mountain Village

Cargo The people are terrific, the country food plentiful, fresh mountain air, arts and crafts, and a mountain man that creates great benchtops, tabletops and furniture from local timbers at Black Mountain or so we're led to believe! Go prospecting for gold in the hills nearby.

Cargo is a delightful hamlet with a population of approximately 230. The population has grown by an amazing 38% over the last census period mainly to the proximity of Newcrest Cadia Mines, currently mining a rich load of gold and copper minerals. Located approximately 35 kms south west of Orange, Cargo owes its origins to the gold mining boom of the mid 1800’s.

Today's new boom business for Cargo is the growing wine industry at its doorsteps. Visit Canobolas Smith and taste 'Alchemy' or Cargo Road Wines for a fabulous feed and drop.

Cargo is also very close to the new Cabonne Limited winery development, a $28million dollar winery that will out produce many other areas in the next few years and become one of Australia's leading developments.
